This is the fourth building occupied by the Baptists of the Laidley district. The first was erected at Blenheim in 1892, but was destroyed by fire in May 1899. By October of the same year the. building had been replaced, but by 1907 the growing Church was in need of a, new home. Interestingly enough, the cost of this 40ft. by 23f t. building was £272/13/6. In 1952, because of the gradual shift of population, a hall was built in Laidley. Then in March of this year work was commenced on the new Laidley Church. The manse was removed bodily ; the Blenheim Church was demolished and the materials were used in the new structure. The present church, built at a cost of just over £3,000, is 70ft. by 28ft., with brick foundations arid front, a dropped floor which is stained and polished, a wide carpeted platform, an open tiled baptistery with a large leadlight behind it, leadlight windows in the front of the building, and fluorescent lighting. The debt of £1,700 was reduced by over £200 by the proceeds of the opening day.
